5 reasons why you should do a sunrise engagement session/photo session in Galveston, Texas.
If you’re thinking about doing a photo session on the beach in Galveston, I will forever tell you to do it at sunrise and sunrise only. Here are 5 reasons why you should have your engagement session at sunrise in Galveston, Texas.
1. The sun rises over THE WATER and sets over the seawall.
If you are wanting to capture both the sun and the water in the background of your photos then sunrise is the way to go! Don’t let the fact that we live in South East Texas stop you from trying to get the views the west coast gets at sunset. A golden hour still exists for sunrise! All you have to do is get up a little early!
2. The beach will have almost no people.
What kind of crazy person goes to the beach at sunrise? Well me, I do. BUT I’m one of the very few crazies out there who does this, meaning there will be almost no one at the beach for your session. Just some joggers who are too focused on their run to even look our way. Although I can work around people, it’s important that my couples feel like it’s just the two of them during their sessions. Lack of people creates a more comfortable and relaxed atmosphere for you and your lover to be more intimate, allowing me to get the most genuine, romantic portraits of y’all.
3. You can catch the low tide.
Catching the low tide in Galveston will expose parts of the beach that are usually under water. When these areas are exposed you’ll find pretty neat stuff like the sea moss on the rocks that added the perfect amount of green to the beach setting in this session. Seagulls also enjoy low tide! I’m guessing more food becomes available for them so they will hang out and make your session a bit more enchanted. I discovered this by accident but from now on I will be checking for low and high tide. Who knew there was so much environmental research behind a perfect session. That should be its own blog actually.
4. You will see the sunrise over the Gulf of Mexico.
Have you ever watched a sunrise? Session or not, its a beautiful experience. Watching it happen over the water gives me this gentle and kind of magical inspiration. After the first time I went, I started to encourage my friends and family to come with. I actually had one of my first dates with my boyfriend at the beach during sunrise with pancakes to top it off. Highly recommend it! I was so excited when Shelly and Dylan agreed to do their engagements in the morning!
5. You can make it a romantic island get away!
We are lucky to have such easy access to a beach even if it is a little muddy at times. Make it a romantic getaway and book a stay on the island for a couple of nights! This will help with getting up extra early to get ready and avoiding the long drive from Houston to Galveston! There’s so many adorable Air B&Bs in Galveston! You could even have part of your session in one of them! Or if you’re extra adventurous you can camp out on the beach (closer to Surfside)! I would definitely be down to get some night time beach camping portraits! Just an idea. ;)
About the Couple
I’m beyond happy with Shelly and Dylan’s Engagement session! I feel like all the stars aligned for us this morning. We woke up around 5am and left around 6am to catch the sunrise at 7am. Afterwards they were able to do their final meetings with a couple of their vendors making it a very productive day! Today would have been their wedding day, April 18, 2020, but because of the situation the entire world is currently in, they had to postpone. I’ve known Shelly since she was 2 years old so she’s like my sister. We shared our childhood together here in the outskirts of Houston until she had to move to Arizona. It was devastating. But that’s where she met Dylan and all of her amazing friends so we couldn’t have it any other way. Being able to photograph these two during this wonderful time in their lives was extra special. I can’t wait for the wedding! #RogersThat2020
