Elegant Picnic With A Surprise Proposal Video | Jayde + Troy
This proposal video will leave you smiling! Here’s the scoop on the making of this video.
The Set Up
Planning this picnic set up was fun and would not have happened without Nikki! It’s been a long time since I’ve planned a session with such detail. We started looking for inspo on Pinterest and created a moon board which gave us a theme, Elegant Picnic! We started to collect items that we already had and went out to shop for what we didn’t. We wanted it to have a relaxed vibe with a mixture of boho and elegance. My favorite find was the sparkly table cloth! The day of, Nikki picked out some meats and cheese while I grabbed some fruit and a bubbly drink! We arrived about two hours early to set up and grab some detail shots making sure everything was perfect for Jayde and Troy!
The Proposal
Nikki and I both knew Troy would be proposing during the session and we were ready to capture it all! He gave Nikki the ring before starting so that she could hand it to Troy during a hugging pose that had Jayde looking away from the action. If anything she thought Nikki was just adjusting Troy’s hands. It’s always a pleasure getting to be in on this wonderful secrete. One of my favorite parts about capturing proposals is seeing both sides, the one who has no idea what’s about to happen and the one that’s been waiting ALL DAY to get down on one knee.
The Video
I had so much fun capturing and editing this video! And it’s the first of its kind! I was able to play more with slow motion and speed ramping during editing and learn what works and doesn’t. As well as choosing a song that fit. Finding audio is actually the hardest part for me, that itself took me about a day! I used to have the hardest time with color grading but this video was the first time I was fully satisfied with the colors on the first try! I made my own LUT out of my photo presents so that my videos match my photos! This was a big deal when I decided to start offering video. HOORAY FOR THAT!
Film Is Not Dead!
Incase you were wondering if the camera they were using in the video was actually taking photos… it was. I simply gave them the camera and told them to photograph each other. All of these are 35mm film photos. I’ve made it my goal this year to bring my film camera with me on shoots and it never disappoints!
The Photographer
Nikki is a talented friend of mine who photographed this session while I did video! Here’s one of my favorites! Click the photo to view her blog!
